EFY

Update on EFY! So I got to the University of Utah campus on Sunday night and met all the other counselors. For most of them, it was their last week of the summer and for me and three other people, it was our first and only session of being a counselor. We had a great devotional and meet and greet. I met my two co-counselors. The only word I can use to describe them is HILARIOUS! I was worried that I would be put with people that wouldn't know how to handle the kids or even teach well, but that was not the case. Chelseanne and Casey were great and I couldn’t have asked for better support for the 28 participants in our group. I had 8 boys that were 16 and 17 years old, and they each had 10 girls. The whole week was amazing. Between the classes, devotionals, dances, testimony meetings, firesides and mealtimes, I was exhausted. I averaged about 3-4 hours a sleep a night and spent all day walking, teaching, dancing, laughing and learning (from the session director and from the youth). I loved going as a participant every year, but being there as a counselor is indescribable. The whole experience is one that I will never forget. I learned so much from my youth and I grew to understand, appreciate and love them! They are so good and are facing so many trials in their lives that I cannot even begin to understand. I grew close to them and the other counselors as well. Being a counselor definitely has an advantage and I was able to laugh harder than I ever have at my new friends. They are such an amazing group of people and I look up to every single one of them. I can’t believe I only did one week… but I am already planning on spending the whole next summer at EFY! There is no other place that I would rather be. EFY was everything I wanted and a little more.
