On Sunday I got a great email. It was from a member in Mexico named Blanca. She lives in one of the little pueblo cities called Telchaquillo. I served there in my fourth area for six months and grew very close to their family. I had the pleasure of teaching her aunt Regina, who was 72 years old at the time. She spoke broken Spanish because her native tongue was Mayan. She could not read or write, but was so happy to learn of the gospel. I remember the first time she prayed, she just sobbed because she had never uttered a prayer in her 72 years of life. It was a very emotional experience for me when she was baptized! Well two years have passed and she has kept faithful and has finally decided, or I should say, her husband is allowing her, to enter the temple. She went through the Merida temple yesterday for the first time. I was sad that I wasn't present, but Blanca informed me that they would all be there in my place! Besides that great news, Blanca also informed me that Regina has stomach cancer and is not doing very well. I don't know how advanced it is or anything else of that matter, so I am only praying for the best. Receiving that email was the highlight of my week. Knowing that the people you love in Mexico are advancing in the gospel without you present is the best joy. It was truly bittersweet news!
