One Year! Today marks the one-year mark since I boarded a plan in Merida Mexico to return home to the United States and end my service as a full-time missionary of the Church. When I left at the MTC my mom said "you will be leaving your family for two years, but you will find a new family in Mexico until you return home." When I first arrived in the country, I felt that I could never think and love the people as a family. However, when my two years of missionary service ended, those words of my wonderful mother returned to my mind and brought tears to my eyes as I said good-bye to "my other family in Mexico." The night before we flew home, my companion from the MTC said, "I feel like a different person leaving this country. I don't know if I will ever return, but I know that the Lord has made a stamp on my heart that says 'Made in Mexico.'" I feel the same way and I miss the country and the people dearly. However, I too believe that I have a stamp on my heart reading Made in Mexico. That long day, one year ago, was a bittersweet, loving feeling. I couldn't wait to hug my parents, see my siblings and meet my two little nephews. It wasn't exactly as I anticipated it to be, but I am grateful for the people that were at the airport and the support that I received. Now that I have come full-circle in one year, I think back on the thoughts, smells, tastes, sounds and memories that return to my mind on a daily basis. These are the top 30 things I miss... COMING SOON (it's taking a while to compile).
